Citing your Sources

If you did not create the information used in your paper, poster, PowerPoint, or other format, you must provide a citation. A citation gives the information needed to go back to find your original source of information. Several organizations have provided standard formats that we use to standardize what information is provided in a citation. The most commonly used format in schools is the MLA (Modern Language Association). A style sheet with examples is available here.

Thomas Harrison Middle School has purchased a subscription to NoodleTools, a service that helps students write their citations by asking for the information needed. The citation for every type of resource is different, so NoodleTools really makes it easy to figure out what you need and then properly formats it for you. NoodleTools also has a notetaking feature that can help organize and save your notes if you like to organize things online. To create a subscription to NoodleTools, see Mrs. Parks, Mrs. McIntyre, or Mrs. Lineweaver for a password (it's ok to email us) or we also will be providing instruction in LA and other content area classes.

Remember, if you didn't create it, cite it!
